Rushing the development is a real bad idea. The expansion should be released when ready, not when the public (or in this case: one person) asks for it. You've been playing AoC for over a decade without the prospect of an expansion, you should be fine. Cysion said it will be released in 2012, which is in the near future. Poor Diablo fans waited a decade for an anounced sequel, you will survive a few months.

After being launched, will the new expansion run on Voobly? Will players be able to play it online or will it be renegaded to single player campaigns only?

I think this was answered during the live Q&A, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyhow what I thought I heard: they will contact Voobly to see if they would make a new lobby for AoFE (this shouldn't be that much of a problem). If they don't want to do it, they will find another one who will. Considering the large community support for the upcomming expansion, I would be suprised if Voobly doesn't include AoFE. Anyway, I'm 99% sure it will be playable online. No worries

Maybe i'm wrong....
...but, for example, on GameRanger you can play with whatever game-version/patch/mode you want of AOC....so i think that with this expansion will be the same

I don't think it was rushed, it just wasn't fun for online gaming. I guess the singleplayer aspect must have been pretty good for those who are into that, because it sold fine and was critically acclaimed. That's where probably at least 90% of their sales come from, so that would be their focus.

AOK, AOE, they were not exempt from that lol. there were many and sitll are many single players, or lan players. some would try online, and then not play online - this was due to a myriad of reasons: age, didn't like playing with kids, hated the lag, preferred campaigns by far, didn't wanna take the time to make multiplayer work, no internet
I'd estimate that 95% of AOK players are still mainly single player, and maybe 0.5% would have been multiplayer in the past. You have to remember that AOE and AOK were AWESOME in single player.
But it is the dedicated multiplayer communities liek aoczone that gives the biggest voice and can influence when agreed (they make the game competitive and strong!)
