+1000 playing numbers of unrated games before system allows you to play rated = WOW! mind blowing solution!

It's good also to make sure new player's game work before they can join games. This is one of the reasons why they are kicked.

This solution can be applied, but voobly rules also must change, forbidding smurfs. I think they can see if one IP is using several nicks... in that case, just give that IP 3 days of ban 11

Make it so u have to play X games unrated before the system allows you to play rated. This will effectively kill most smurfing.

this is a very good idea. i don't see any other effective solution

Yeah I can't see any flaws with that idea, hopefully someone can point them out soon if there are any.

Maybe a large number of games, and the problem would be on how to check if that games were really played. If the smurf gets a friend just to start some games and make Voobly think he played that much of games he can get access to ratings pretty easy.
Maybe a group of trustworthy moderators responsible to turning 'beta' players into rated players.
Just a thought

add a check on average military score/ game time. people can still fool it maybe but its not worth the effort.

Basically if you make creating smurfs too difficult and people will give up on it. Maybe some will still have 2 accounts or 3 but it will be a better situation than now (10+ per player)

I saw one idea on myleague.com(one of the biggest online league gaming sites).. what they do is they give people a rating only after 20 games.. till 20 games players are all provisional.. they do not get a rating calculated.. after 20 games they get the actual rating.. what it does is it makes smurfers wait a long time before they can play at their correct level.. also people can chose not to play with provisional players.. or they can play in their own provisional lobby.. though this will not stop smurfing completely but it will make it time consuming for someone to create a smurf account and get to anywhere decent..

Make AoC runnable on a website or through a game client that requires no install (i.e. you could put the client and AoC on a USB stick and play anywhere). Maybe that could somewhat revive it like what Quake Live did for Quake 3.

Well that is the idea of tournement I came up with too. But also separate the levels.
You have to start in the tourney that corresponds to your rating, and you can go to the next or previous tourney if you are last or first.

But for now, this is doable only with an invit-only system, because the rating system isn't reliable. And even more with money, there will have smurfs all the time.
